Chapter 5 - "the union's secret weapon"
It took awhile to find the right boat but she did. "I need the Captain!" The mermaid yelled from the starboard side. A burly man came and looked over the side. "I am the Captain." He said rolling his eyes.
Then he looked down and noticed Emily, "Oh my! Lift her up and we will help her."
They were wearing the blue uniforms of the Northern Army so the mermaid trusted them, and let them help. She tried to lift Emily up, but it wouldn’t work. So, Maple got up on the raft exposing her shiny brown tail. The crew gasped, but reached and grabbed Emily.
"What is her name?" someone said from on board. "Her name is Emily."
The Captain came over to look at me and said, "We will bury her as soon as possible." Maple looked relieved and asked, "How can I ever repay you?"
"You can help us win the war," said the Captain.
Maple and other mermaids joined forces with the North’s Navy to keep her promise and the north won the war.
