Chapter 2 - "the escape"
General Stonewall Jackson knelt before me and untied my bonds. I looked around quickly to gather myself and I saw a raft right on the waters edge, calling to me saying come to me, come to me. I knew I had to eat before I tried to escape and disappear. So, I said to the general, "I’m hungry. Can I have something to eat?"
I don’t know what I said that changed his mood from mean to giving, but he went to a basket and got out some bread. Without saying a word, he gave it to me and nodded saying, "Go ahead and eat it."
Once I had finished my bread and nobody was looking, I ran as fast as I could and pulled the raft out towards the sea. I jumped on and hoped that the current would take me further to the North. I heard some screaming and looked back to the shore. They were yelling at me, but I was already out to far for them to come and get me.
That night's sleep was impossible. The waves were crashing in on me but once I got far in the middle of the sea, I hoped I would be safe. I did have one problem. How was I going to find food and water?
Two days later, I was still floating; worried I might not eat or drink again. Then I think to myself that God has sent me a reward. To my surprise, I saw a wrecked ship with fresh FOOD and WATER floating in the surf. I paddled as fast as I could with my hands to get close to the wrecked ship. While I was gathering the supplies, I saw something moving. I looked to my right. I saw nothing. Then I looked to my left and there right before my eyes was a mermaid. next >>>
